Northern fur seals
Northern fur seals spend winter in the warm waters near California. There is lots of food for the seals, but there are also lots of predators. When spring comes, the Northern fur seals go on a long trip to islands near Alaska. These islands are a safe place to breed, as there are not many predators. The male seals arrive at islands first. They fight for the best females to arrive. The females arrive about four weeks later. They each give birth to one seal pup. In the next few days, the seals mate again. When they return to the islands, one year later, the females will give birth to next year’s seal pups. After three months, the females and the young seals set off back to the warm waters off the coast of California. Soon after, the males also leave the islands. The fur seals travel about 10,000 kilometers on their trip from California to Alaska and back again.                     (改编于《七年级新理念第三册》)

A 50-year-old American policeman came back to his school. The teacher asked him to give a talk to the small boys and girls there. The talk was about the love of their great country. All the little ones were sitting in a large meeting-room. The old policeman went up and began speaking. He said, “Boys and girls, I studied in this school 40 years ago. You are much happier today than I was. Think about it and answer me , why are you so happy now?”
No sound came from the children. The policeman waited for a long time. Then a short boy in the front put up his hand. “Good boy! Please answer me, dear.” said the policeman.
With a big smile on his face, the boy stood up and said, “If you speak long enough, we won’t have Maths and English lessons this morning.”

Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to recommend my classmate Andy for this year’s Most Helpful Student Award.
Andy is helpful. He often helps our classmates with their lessons. At weekends, he helps his neighbours look after their children. And in the summer holidays, he often teaches the old people in his neighbourhood how to use computers. The old people there like him very much.
If Andy gets the award, we will be very happy.
Yours faithfully
