Today I am going along with Rowan Dougall, a postman in Queensland in the far north of Australia, on his daily delivery (投递) trip. Every day, Rowan sets off with his post bags in the tail
of his little plane—not much bigger than a large family car, and flies across one of the wildest places on Earth, Australia’s Cape North, to reach the very faraway inland areas called the Outback.
We fly just 300 metres above dangerous crocodiles (鳄鱼) and snakes. This is one of the
longest and most expensive postman trips in the world. However, a 50-cent stamp not only gets a letter posted to a neighbouring town, it will get it hand-delivered by flying postman to the furthest areas of the Outback. To help with the costs, the plane takes three or four paying local people or tourists, and I am one of them. In the back of the plane, there is a pile of post—envelopes of all sizes, newspapers, and a few parcels (包裹). Somehow I expected this post to look special, maybe to include some hats or cowboy boots, but this looks no more exciting than the post delivered to me in England. I look at some of the names and addresses, wondering about the people who are waiting for these letters and parcels.
Rowan’s route is 2,000 km long, with 15 stops, and I get a chance to meet Sandy, who has just received an order of clothes from a store. “I look forward to this weekly delivery,” she says, “but I do miss actually going shopping myself.” Rowan is checking the time. There are another ten stops
to make before dusk (黄昏). Time to leap back on the plane and up into the air.
34. What does the writer say about the cost of delivering to Cape North?
A.The sender pays more than the usual mail cost.
B. People in the Outback pay 50 cents for a delivery.
C. It may be possible to find a less expensive delivery.
D. The money passengers pay help to cover some of the cost.
35.What surprises the writer about the items of post on the plane?
A. The items seem to be in a mess. B. The items are similar to his own post.
C. Some of the items are very unusual. D. He can’t see clear names on the items.
36. When talking about the plane post service, Sandy says that .
A. she would like the service to be more often
B. the mail plane does not stop long enough there
C. she would like to be able to do her own shopping
D. there are many items that cannot be delivered to her
37. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing the text?
A. To describe postal delivery services in the Outback.
B. To show the wild beauty of the Australian Outback.
C. To warn about the dangers to postmen in the Outback.
D. To get more support for postal services in the Outback.

Mother's Day was coming, and John usually went back home, but this year he was just too tired. When he walked by a flower shop, he said to himself, “I'll send Mom some roses."
He went into the small shop and saw a boy talking to the shopkeeper. "How many roses can I get for six dollars, madam?" the boy asked. The shopkeeper was trying to explain that roses were expensive. Maybe the boy would be happy with carnations.
"No. I have to have roses," he said, " because that's my mother’s favorite."
Something inside of John was touched by the boy's voice. The boy wanted to get those roses so much. John looked at the shopkeeper and silently mouthed he would pay for the boy's roses.
The shopkeeper looked at the boy and said, "OK, I will give you twelve red roses for six dollars." The boy took the flowers and ran from the store happily. It was worth the extra thirty-five dollars just to see that kind of excitement.

John was outside the cemetery fence, thirty or forty steps behind the boy, who walked inside the cemetery fence. The boy stopped by a small tomb and went on his knees. Criticism (批评) is everywhere in life, so you need to learn how to deal with it.
Ask yourself how the criticism will influence you. Will you lose something important because you are criticized? Surely not! So, don’t worry about it. Instead, remember that some criticism actually helps you improve.
You cannot stop what people say. What you can do, however, is to change the way you deal with criticism. You have the right to decide what to do with the criticism you receive.
Don’t be afraid to accept criticism. No one likes to be told that he is wrong. Yet, every person has ever been criticized for something. Realize that it’s normal. You may have received some strong criticism, but it doesn’t mean that you are foolish, or that you don’t have the ability to do something properly. Try not to think of it in that way and don’t take it seriously. If you can learn to be optimistic, you will reduce some stress and nervousness about what people think.
Consider where the criticism comes from. It may help you find out what causes the criticism. Is the person just trying to offer useful criticism? This type of criticism is known as valid criticism. On the other hand, there are persons that offer their advice just to be useless. This is known as invalid criticism because it is often not of any use at all.
Do your best. And if someone doesn’t like what you’ve done, so what? It’s either valid criticism or invalid criticism. But you have the power to decide how you will allow it to influence you.

五、阅读与回答问题(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
Meet Thomas Wilson. Thomas is famous all over the world. He holds the world record for sleeping in (睡过头). One weekend, Thomas slept in for two days, three hours and fourteen minutes. It was unbelievable. No one in history had ever slept in for so long before.
Thomas was very proud of his world record. His friends were proud of him, too. Whenever Thomas walked down the street, people always came up to him and shook his hand. Thomas was a star.
The only person who wasn’t proud of Thomas’s world record was his father. Dad didn’t like it when Thomas slept in. He complained that whenever Thomas slept in, the lawns didn’t get mowed. He was worried about how high the grass was getting. Every weekend, it seemed to get higher and higher. “It’s like a jungle there,” Dad moaned (抱怨) to Thomas one day. But Thomas wasn’t worried about the grass getting higher. He had more important things on his mind——like sleeping in.
One morning, Thomas was woken from a deep sleep by a loud roaring noise. It sounded like a wild animal pacing about under his bedroom window.
Thomas rushed over to the window and pulled the curtains back. His eyes bulged like basketballs. “What on Earth…?” He gasped. There, in the middle of the backyard, was a lion! “Awesome!” cried Thomas. Suddenly, a giraffe poked its head through the window. It munched the leaves from a plant sitting by Thomas’s bed. Next, an elephant walked past the swimming pool and squirted (喷出) water all over Dad’s car! “Cool!” cheered Thomas. “Now I don’t have to wash Dad’s car today.”…(选自《新理念英语阅读》)

Tips for travelling abroad
Boys and girls! The summer holiday is coming. I think it’s a good idea to travel abroad. How can we enjoy ourselves? Here are some tips.
Before you leave, you’d better learn about the weather and prepare enough clothes. Remember to take your ID card and passport. Make sure you take enough money.
During travelling, safety must come first. First of all, follow traffic rules all the time. Second , try to keep your things in good order and take good care of them. Third, it’s better to take some medicine with you if necessary.
What’s more, always try to be a well-behaved tourist. In public places, remember to keep your voice down. Don’t push in before others and don’t drop litter carelessly. Read public signs carefully before entering some tourist attractions.
In my opinion, it’s useful to learn about the culture and customs of the country you will visit. Just as the saying goes, “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.”
